Enterprise Business Intelligence Catalog

Your reports and your catalog, in one app.

ebic.io is a central place to view every report, powered by the governance catalogs you already run, however many there are. Find a report, open it in its own viewer and work with its catalog details, without bouncing between BI tools and catalogs.

Free during the beta. No card needed. None of your data is sent to us or stored by us.

Many catalogs, one view

More than one catalog? Your users won’t notice.

Business units run their own catalogs, and acquisitions bring more. ebic.io connects to all of them and searches them as one, so finding a report never starts with working out where it is catalogued.

One search across all of them

Every catalog is searched at once. People find the report they need without knowing, or caring, which catalog holds it.

A ranked source of truth

Rank your catalogs. Number one is your gold source of truth: when a report is recorded in more than one catalog, people see that catalog’s version, and every result names where it came from.

Consolidate at your own pace

Moving to one catalog after a merger? Rank the destination first. Reports switch to it as they move across, the older catalogs cover the rest, and nobody waits for the migration to finish.

Why ebic.io

Everything happens in one app.

Search the catalog, open the report and ask a question about it without leaving ebic.io.

Find it

Search every report and dashboard your catalogs know about, and narrow by platform, data domain or glossary term.

Trust it

See the owner, certification, tags, glossary terms, lineage and version history next to the report itself.

Discuss it

Hold the conversation on the dashboard, with @-mentions and announcements that reach the people who use it.

Right in the app

Metadata, favourites and lineage, without opening the catalog.

Metadata at a glance

Owner, description, tags, certification and glossary terms sit beside the report, so you know what you’re looking at before you rely on it.

Starred reports

Star the reports you use most and they’re one click away every time you open the app.

Data lineage

See the tables, pipelines and models behind a report, traced back to the source.

See how each one connects

Getting started

Up and running in a few minutes.

  1. Create your account

Sign in with Google or your email. It’s free while ebic.io is in beta.

  2. Connect your catalogs

Add each catalog you use, with its access token, in the app’s settings. Tokens stay on your device.

  3. Open a dashboard

Search, open the report in the viewer for its BI tool, and see who owns it and what it means.

Your data

It stays where it already is.

ebic.io is a window onto your BI tools and your catalogs, not another copy of them.

Your security still applies

Reports open with the sign-in and permissions you already have in each BI tool, so people see only what they’re allowed to see.

Nothing is sent to us

Reports and catalog details go straight from your systems to your device. We don’t receive them and we don’t store them. Your catalog access token stays on your device too.

Payments by Paddle

Checkout, tax and receipts are handled by Paddle. We never see or store your card details.

Questions

Good to know before you start.

Is it really free?

Yes. ebic.io Stand-alone is free while it’s in beta. Create an account with Google or your email and use everything, with no card to enter.

Does ebic.io copy my dashboards or their data?

No. Reports are displayed by your BI tool, and catalog details are read from your catalog when you look at them. None of it is sent to us or stored by us. The only things we store about you are your account, your subscription and, if you choose to sync them, your app settings, encrypted so that we can’t read them.

Do my existing permissions still apply?

Yes. Each report opens in the viewer for its BI tool with the sign-in and permissions you already have there, and your catalog access token carries your own catalog permissions. ebic.io can’t show you anything you couldn’t already open.

Which data catalogs can I connect?

OpenMetadata, DataHub, Apache Atlas and Databricks Unity Catalog. Collibra and Atlan aren’t available yet. If one of those is what you run, tell us and we’ll let you know when it’s ready.

We have more than one catalog. Does that work?

Yes, and it’s what ebic.io is built for. Connect each catalog in the app’s settings and give it a name. Search covers all of them at once, each result says which catalog it came from, and a report recorded in more than one catalog shows up once. You can mix products, for example OpenMetadata alongside a DataHub you inherited through an acquisition.

Can I use the same settings in another browser or on another device?

Yes. In the app, open Settings and under Where settings are stored choose Your ebic account, then set a passphrase. Your catalogs and their sign-ins, your theme and your other settings are encrypted on your device with that passphrase before they’re saved, so nobody else can read them, including us. Sign in anywhere else, enter the passphrase once, and your settings are there, with changes kept in step. Until you choose this, settings stay in the browser or on the device you’re using.
